Pricing Guide

Pricing Guide

I have put together this guide that allows you to get an idea of the cost associated with me building a model for you. Please note that this is a guide only, and although I always attempt to honour it as far as is possible to keep things simple, I will always need to quote for your specific project before the price is fixed.

Kits vary in their complexity and individual challenges, and also if you have any specific "off menu" requirements (e.g. conversions, scratch building) this will add to the cost, but please contact me for a confirmed quotation.

Please use the tables to work out each of the cost elements of your project (build + diorama + shipping), all prices are in GBP and there are no additional charges or taxes imposed by myself. Don't forget to add the cost of the kit and any other required aftermarket parts unless you are supplying them.

Price and Size Bands
Please use this table to identify the price band ("A" through "G") and size band ("S","M" or "L") of the model and scale you are interested in. The example vehicle types are simply there to help you identify which band is appropriate. If you are wanting me to procure the kit, please bear in mind that this table does not necessarily indicate availability of the example type in the specified scales, I am at the mercy of the kit manufacturers here (for example, only a few aircraft are available in 1/24 scale). Nor can I guarantee that your desired subject is available in any particular scale (or at all if it is a really unusual subject) but I can determine that for you, and propose options if you get in touch. I have used "n/a" in the table where I know that there are no (or very few) kits of any type matching the criteria. This table is not exhaustive, for example ships and cars come in a variety of scales but I have attempted to illustrate the most common ones.

Build Costs
This table converts the price code into an example build cost. This cost covers all labour and consumables, but NOT the kit, third party decals or any after market items. It includes shipping to the UK, but not internationally - I will quote separately for that if required. If custom printed decals are required, I will quote for that as part of the build cost. It may be a kit you already possess (or would rather procure yourself) or you may prefer me to source it, or indeed you may wish me to recommend the most appropriate kit for the model that you require. I am happy to source kits and aftermarket parts, I have a good relationship with a number of suppliers and can usually get the best prices. I will of course only pass on to you what these cost me (including any shipping). The labour costs below assume that I will be using a reasonable degree of aftermarket detailing, which I would always recommend where such parts are available. I can advise you on this.
Price Band Build Cost (GBP)
A 350.00
B 425.00
C 500.00
D 650.00
E 800.00
F 1000.00
G 1300.00

Diorama Costs
Diorama bases are a major part of my business, and I am happy to create a diorama base to complement your model, or as a stand alone project to complement any model you may already possess. A diorama is a great way to enhance the presentation of any model, please see some examples here. It is entirely up to you to determine the size of the diorama base, of course it needs to be appropriate to the model, and do think carefully as to whether you have specific space limitations.

The costs specified here are for a basic diorama featuring a dark brown wooden frame, supporting a basic flat or subtly landscaped surface representing mud, grass, sand, tarmac, concrete, or any combination thereof, mounted on a wood effect base. The cost of materials and labour that goes into producing one of these bases is related to the overall size of the piece, and so in order to simplify matters, I have come up with a formula that you can use to estimate the cost of your diorama:

GBP100.00 + ([area in square centimetres] x GBP0.17)

The table below gives some example sizes and the associated costs according to this formula.
Size Cost
15cm x 20cm 151.00
30cm x 25cm 227.50
40cm x 25cm 270.00
50cm x 30cm 355.00
60cm x 30cm 406.00
These prices are guidelines only. There are many options for the type of wooden frame which may affect cost, and if you want to add more content or sophistication to your diorama such as significant landscaping, constructions, trees, figures, vehicles or other hardware then please contact me for a quote as these will add to the cost and may require the purchase of additional items to complete. Water effects can also add some extra cost (and lead time due to the curing process). Also note that for larger dioramas it is worth asking me direct because I may well be able to reduce the overall price.

Shipping Costs - Dioramas Shipping a diorama base to the UK of any size up to a largest dimension of 75cm is GBP12.00. For international customers (or Scottish Highlands/UK Offshore) please contact me for a shipping cost as the costs involved are very variable depending on the dimensions of the piece.

Shipping Costs - Models
I normally ship models free to the UK mainland (as long as the value of the project is over £300), however particularly large models, or destinations in the Scottish Highlands and offshore UK addresses may attract an additional fee (I can advise). I use next day courier services (DPD, UPS etc) for the UK who have a good record of looking after the packages well.

For international customers, I use Fedex Priority, which takes between one and three days to deliver, depending on your location (sometimes longer for AUS/NZ). The cost of this will depend entirely on the destination and the size of the package. Bear in mind that the package size usually is significantly bigger than the model because of the need to protect it.

I used to publish estimated shipping costs for international deliveries, however post Covid prices have gone up and down all over the place and it is very difficult to provide a meaningful guide. Therefore I will provide a shipping quotation for you with your project quotation based on prevailing prices at the time.

I hope this gives you some idea of the costs involved, please don't hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to confirm the cost of your project.
