15 March 2025 - Very Fire 1/700 USS Montana BB-67

Back to sea again. But this is a project with a difference. The Montana class ships were intended as replacements to the Iowa class but although planned they were never actually built due to changes in priorities. But this is no ordinary out of the box build. My customer wants a "what if" version of Montana had she been built, updated and revised and made it through to the 1980s. Based on similar and subsequent naval development trends there is a fairly predictable set of changes that can be applied in order to achieve this. This will involve cannibalising other kits and a certain amount of scratch work. But the good news is that I can safely bypass the rivet counters and nobody can tell me that the end result isn't accurate....

Zoukei Mura 1/48 F-4J Phantom II

Who doesn't love a Phantom? Admittedly this particular subject matter (Showtime 100) is not exactly rare in the world of models but there's a good reason for that. A great looking aircraft with a special history. But more importantly a great kit. The ZM F-4 kit series is pretty much state of the art and a joy to put together and I'm very pleased with this addition to my back catalogue...

Featured Build: The ill fated HMS Ibis
Deans Marine 1/96 HMS Amethyst, built as HMS Ibis
Quite probably the biggest and most demanding project I've ever undertaken. Taking Deans Marine's massive 1/96 HMS Amethyst and converting it into the earlier Black Swan sloop HMS Ibis, which was lost off Algiers in 1942. Persuaded by the sheer adventure of it, and a customer's family connection, I grabbed it by the horns and what an adventure it has been.

More scratch built than kit parts, this resulting monster of a model has taught me much in terms of modelling techniques and given me something to look back on with a degree of pride for years to come.
